Colour Create #24: no dp & a Gorjuss girl

Felt like going back to basics yesterday and played with the fab rose background stamp from toodles & binks (it's H-uge - enough to cover a 6x6 card) to make my own background paper. Think we've all been spoilt with all the gorgeous designer papers that are available now but if you've been stamping for a while you'll know it's not always been the case! I could never give up the pre-bought papers now (just too pwetty to resist!) but I do get the urge to have a 'play' every now and again - real satisfaction in saying 'I made that' :)

Anyway, this is what I used . . .
Just basic stamping and heat embossing with versamark pad and clear powder then I just sponged different distress inks over it to bring out the pattern and voila . .

Wouldn't normally use orange with pink & green but thought I'd play along with the colour combo over on Colour Create and love the 'zing' the orange gives to it.

So after doing that didn't want to cover it too much so just opted for a simple (ish) layout (couldn't stop myself from adding the flowers and bits) and thought the Gorjuss girl cutie would fit the bill.
She's my favourite one out of the last release but this is the first time I've inked her up! I thought she just cried out to be decoupaged and her dress was just perfect to add a bit of tulle between the layers. Here are a couple more shots to try and show you the dimension and the tulle (click on photos for closer view - just don't look up her skirt o.k! LOL).

I even managed to include the optional extra of 'hearts' to the colour create challenge and only realised after (her dress and gem in her hair)! I've water coloured her with twinkling H2Os and added the usual suspects of paper roses, gems and various punches and nesties. Sentiment is a Magnolia stamp, the scallop bit behind it is from a SU stamp set.
I've promised hubby no more stash spending for a while now (not quite sure what the definition of 'a while' is. Think that will be down to my restraint!) but that's o.k as some just landed today before I promised haha (got the gorgeous new light Copic colours and some more greeting farm cuties - so that should keep me happy for a while!)
That's all for today - thanks for stopping by.

Yeah, someone who knows how to make a backgrounds yet. Yes, as an 'old' stamper, we never used DP years ago. In fact I still think it's cheating! I have all these stamps and should be using them to create my cards, not buying things. Thanks for sharing and I hope more people try it. It's very satisfying and much more economical.
