CCT #38 lilac: meet Toodles

CCT this week is 'lilac'. So nice refreshing change if you've been making christmas cards in reds and greens and other more christmassy colours! I could have made a lilac christmas card but fancied a break and it was good excuse to ink up this gorgeous new stamp from Toodles & Binks.

  • Images: 'Toodles & Binks skate' stamp and 'figures of 8' quote from Stamp Galaxy
  • Colouring: Watercoloured with distress inks and lots of twinkling H2O's as I wanted this to shimmer to go with the shimmer in the DP. You might see it better if you click on photo
  • DP: DCWV nursery stack
  • Others: cardstock from papermill, flowers, brad and zoomz from stash

Well, thanks for stopping by and I want to wish any US readers out there a happy thanksgiving day!

Tilda & Friends ATC: 'baby it's cold outside'

ATC theme this week is 'warm & cozy' which immediately makes me think indoors, in front of a fire. However I made a tilda card in front of the fire not long ago and didn't want to repeat myself. So ran with the 'indoors' theme and came up with this . .

All stamps are from the current christmas/winter Magnolias and the window has acetate 'glass panes' and is raised on foam pads so that the snowy scene outside looks like it's in the distance and Tilda is nice and snug inside :) Stamped onto watercolour paper and coloured with distress inks and twinkling H2o's. The scene outside has lots of snow and glitter added. The sentiment (typed out with ATB tapewriter) just seemed to fit plus I'd just finished watching 'Elf' so had that song stuck in my head (love that movie, so funny) :)!

Hope you're all keeping warm and having a good week. See you tomorrow for CCT.

Double Whiff of Candy!

CANDY NOW CLOSED. See here for winners
Do you smell that? Yes, it's time for some Whiff of Joy candy, courtesy of Katharina. She has generously given me not 1 but 2 gorgeous Whiff of Joy stamps for blog candy.

Yep, I am giving away 'Charlie with presents'
and 'Teenage Lizzie', as shown in the photos along with the cards (made with my stamps, you'll get brand new ones still in it's cute lil packet. Charlie comes with the matching sentiment too, not shown in photo).

So all you have to do to enter is comment on this post and spread the word, that's it! It's open to ALL and I will pick 2 winners next Tuesday 2nd Dec. The first winner will get to choose which stamp they would prefer and the 2nd winner will obviously get the remaining stamp.

Good luck!

Award, card and WoJ guest DT call

I got this lovely award from Camilla last night and then again from Kathy this morning:

Pick 5 bloggers that you consider as your best blogging buddies and deserves this award for their contribution towards the blogging community, no matter what language.-State the name of the author of each blog as well as a link to each one's blogs.-Each blogger (upon acceptance) of this award should do a post and show the award on their blog and put the name and link to the blog that has given her/him the award.-Link to DOING LIFE's blog, so everyone will know the origin of this award.

Kathy beat me to it as I was going to pick her but the fact she picked me too (great minds think alike LOL) just got me thinking that in theory the 5 you pick are more than likely going to pick you so rather than try and see who's fastest! I'm going to leave this for ALL my blogging buddies, who drop by every week and always leave me such lovely comments - you'll know who you are hopefully ;D !!!

I'm going to leave you with this card I made last night to fit the Ismaki challenge (option was blue & copper) but as usual I've left it too late to enter

  • Stamp: 'Herb with bird' and sentiment from Whiff of Joy
  • Colouring: Promarkers
  • Papers: BG Figgy pudding pad & copper cardstock from DCWV metallic stack
  • Tools: Scallop squares nesties (thought I'd use the old ones for a change and not just my new lables ones haha), Martha stewart picket fence border punch, cuttlebug snowflake die (top left of card hard to see in photo)
  • Others: metal eyelets and metal embellie from stash

Speaking of WoJ, if you love these stamps and would like a shot at guest DT for the next 2 months, you need to head on over to Katharina's blog for details of how to enter - good luck!

Off to spend day with Hubby now so will try and catch up with everyone later tonight or tomorrow. Have a lovely, if not slightly chilly, Monday!

Spoonful: Blooming marvelous Sarah Kay

So after a mega busy weekend at the shop (does the cold weather make people want more take-out food because it was manic ?!!) thought I'd give christmas cards a break and made this just to unwind (hence another simple layout, nothing too taxing)!
Love Sarah Kay and the new ones will be out soon, just in time for xmas wish lists ;), which will include this cutie (which I already had from before Stampevie got the license). Then realised I can enter it for the spoonful challenge this week, 'blooming marvelous'!

Materials (linked items are from Silly Monkeys, click on them to take you to store):

It really feels like winter now, brrrrrr. Although living in the north west, near the coast we seem to have missed all the snow, it's just very wet and windy. . . Perfect weather to stay in and get inky :) . . but then I really must start sorting out christmas presents this week, seeing as it's end of Nov already, eek!

Award thanks!

O.K I am very bad when it comes to awards - I do appreciate them but just never seem to get round to posting them so huge apologies to Heather and Kimberley who gave me this pretty looking award a few days ago

and also to Fiona and Helen for this touching award which I got today
This one has a lovely sentiment behind it, which is:

"This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight blogger’s who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award."

I really don't like picking, so would like to pass these on to everyone on my bloglist but also to all my regular visitors/commenters - you know who you are ;D

Big Hugs,

1 for the weekend: WoJ Tree

Didn't manage to make as many cards/blog hop as I thought I would - got sidetracked by sorting out bits in my craftroom the other evening and then weekend = work (total opposite to most people I know!). You know how it is, start off wanting to just tidy up one thing and then it all snowballs which is why I try not to have too many tidying sessions LOL. So now I've only got the one card to show and it's not to any challenge, just what I thought best for the image.

This gorgeous tree is from Whiff of Joy (as is the sentiment) and it was love at first sight - fantastic for someone like me who loves colouring in :) although I'm not that happy with this one as I rushed it a bit and the apples and gingerbread men look a bit flat :/

Not going to list materials etc as pretty straight forward and I didn't think it needed much else as I wanted the image and sentiment to be the main focus. Used my Promarkers and lots of glitter, stardust pens and clear glaze pen over the apples so nice and shiny - not sure if you can see that when you click on photo. Any questions just ask. Will try and catch up with everyone's blogs etc tomorrow, as off to work soon. Have a lovely evening.

CCT: snow & snowflakes

CCT theme this week is 'snow & snowflakes' so perfect excuse for me to ink up a couple of my Herb stamps but just looking at them I've just realised one is a 'she' so I think I'll call her Herbette LOL. Anyway, this is a nice simple card I made, all stemming from scrap piece of DP I had on my desk.

  • Images: 'Herb' and 'Herb with teacup' from Whiff of Joy stamps, cut out and stuck on with silicone glue so that they curve off the card. Sentiment is 'christmas wishes' set from Whiff of Joy too.
  • Colouring: promarkers and cosmic shimmer paint in 'icicles' for the snow (might be able to see it better if you click on photo)
  • Paper: BG Wassail dp and matching red card from scrap box. Snowflake cut from white glitter card.
  • Tools: Mega curved rectangles nestabilities, cuttlebug snowflake cut & emboss duo die
  • Others: ribbon and brad from stash. Glittered around the sentiment with glue pen and glamour dust.

Fri Sketchers: Waiting for santa

Wasn't sure I was up to tackling Fri sketchers this week but then it all fell in place once I selected to use this big fireplace stamp and this cute tilda from the winter kit. It was just a case of cutting up dp to go behind it all and as the stamp was so big and detailed I didn't need to add anything else.

  • Images: fireplace is a creative expressions stamp from Sir stampalot. Tilda and the snowflakes on the green panel are from the Magnolia winter kit, circular santa sentiment from Magnolia christmas/winter '08 collection.
  • Colouring: Promarkers then H2O's and Sakura glaze pens on various bits of the fireplace scene for added sparkle. White fluffy stuff on the tops of the stockings and stickles on tilda's wings. Tilda has been cut out and curved before sticking on with foampads so she is 3D but not obvious from photo
  • Paper: DCWV christmas stack from 2 yrs ago I think.
  • Others: word window punch to cut out the 2 little tabs (top left) then 3 gems to finish. Top right of card looked a bit bare so I stuck scrap red strip going across which I think works quite well - kinda reminds me of the wooden beam you get across a room and I think balances the card out better.

Tilda & Friends ATC: time to decorate

Tilda & Friends ATC theme this week is 'time to decorate' so anything to do with christmas decorations and it doesn't have to be magnolia stamps (see blog for details). There's a fab Tilda & presents stamp for one lucky participant this week, so why not give it a go.
I've used Tilda decorating (just love her) but I didn't get the magnolia tree stamp that goes with her. Instead I remembered I had this very old christmas set which has some fir branches in it and I knew I could use that when I bought this Tilda. So I stamped and masked Tilda then just stamped random branches all around her in the shape of a tree. I've coloured with Promarkers and twinkling H2O over the top for that added sparkle and glitter. Diamond glaze and glamour dust over the baubles then the tinsel around the tree created with liquid pearls (not used those in years!) Then it's been matted onto a bit of scrap blue card and I found a scrap of dp which had baubles on it so stuck that on at an angle. Then little sentiment added across the top and a brad in the corner. I'm afraid the photo's a bit dark but if you click on it you might be able to see it all better.

Think this is another ATC which will be turned into a christmas gift tag, just need to get the presents soon :/

That's all for now (may be back later if I finish the card I'm working on before work tonight, if not see you tomorrow for CCT).

Thanks for dropping by.

not a challenge in sight : Lizzie 'Joy'

I'm back with a card, as promised. Was going to do one of the 'gazillion' challenges that are around but then I was taking so long trying to decide on image and sketch etc that I stopped myself and just simply made a card without it having to fit anything - think I sometimes forget that I am allowed to do that, LOL!

Used another of the gorgeous new 'Whiff of Joy' releases, this is Lizzie and I think she is just too cute. I've watercoloured her with distress inks and sakura stardust pen on her fur trim (so super sparkly). Chalked around the edges after cutting with my other set of nestabilities labels (just love these new sets). Used embossing folder on scrap of green card and the dp is from an old DCWV christmas stack. The sentiments ('joy' and 'lots of presents') are also WoJ stamps then the only other things I've added are ribbon and a couple of gems from stash.

Have a lovely evening and I'll be back tomorrow with my Wed ATC.

Congrats Bernie! If you could email me I will send you your goodies this week.

2 quick gift card/tags

It's the start of another week and I'm running behind already! Didn't manage to make any cards over the weekend what with work and hubby pulling something in the back of his ankle after a short burst of badminton on Sun (and as he says -'he hadn't even started to break a sweat!) so I had to work Sun evening and he's going around limping and milking it for all it's worth ;/ (although he did give me a fright when it happened so am glad it wasn't something worse. Even though this is probably going to take a while to heal in itself.)

I'll be back tomorrow to announce the winner of my candy and hopefully with a card too. I shall leave you with 2 quick gift cards/tags I did recently but haven't got round to showing. Just really simple, images coloured with promarkers and matted onto scrap DP. One's 'Daisy' from Sugar Nellie and the other is a cute Hanglar girl.

Have a good evening and remember to warm up properly before excercise!!

Toodles & Binks news

Hope you're all having a good weekend. Just a quicky to say . . have you seen the 2 newest additions to the Toodles & Binks stamp range? This is Toodles & binks and there is a fab sentiment stamp to go with her.
The second one is just a sneek peek but he looks so cute, can't wait to see the full image.
Details here and there's candy too if you can guess the names of him and his friend. So pop on over and have a go - good luck!

2 for the weekend

O.K the weeks are just going by way too quick for my liking, how come it's Fri already? and we're already half way through Nov? I haven't done anything for christmas yet - no lists, no purchases, nothing. Was way more organised last year and had all the presents bought by now, best get my skates on, eh?!

Anyway, at least I'll have the cards ready, LOL. Here are two more.

This first one is a 5x7 " card (I do like this size as alternative to 14cm square cards as the other standard rectangle sizes I either find too small or too big!). It's 'non cute' and is for the Penny Black challenge of 'sentiment only'. This PB stamp is huge so doesn't really need anything with it! Just used the black and white scraps from my earlier Lizzie card and teamed it with some silver mirri card and a splash of red ribbon to tie in with the holographic black embossing powder I used on the text which has flashes of red and silver (you probably won't be able to pick up in the photo). The silver die cuts are various cuttlebug dies and the black piece at the bottom has been embossed with the snowflake folder and that's all there is to that one. Not that keen on it but it'll do for my 'non-cute' pile.

Now, back to cute. This one's using the sketch over on Papertake Weekly and another of my cute Herb stamps from Whiff of Joy:

  • Images: 'Herb with baby' stamp from Whiff of Joy. sentiment is from a studio g 99p clear set and the flourishes are part of an Inkadinkado set
  • Colouring: Prismacolour pencils blended with sansodor and twinkling H2O. I went for the distressed/grungy look to this card and to get the snowman white I've stamped onto white paper and coloured/distressed the paper all around him so that the only white bits left is Herb himself. Added a little bit of pale blue shading to Herb and lots of pearlescent H2O all over him for that glow/shine
  • papers: Last years DCWV christmas stack and white glitter card. They already had the 'dirty' look to them I just added more around the stripe mat to make it 'pop' a bit more.
  • Tools: spot my new nestie, heehee? I've been wanting the new 'labels' set and finally found some in the UK ( 'Once upon a stamp' if you're interested, £16.99 and if you get 4 sets it works out £15. First time I used them and no probs - got them in 2 days. Exchange rate not that great anymore to buy from the US- works out about the same now doesn't it! :/) This is 'labels 1' but 'labels 2' is fab as well. The stars are nesties too. Martha stewart scallop dots border punch, corner punch and snowflake die used too.
  • Others: Ribbon from stash - just stamped 'merry christmas' across it with green StazOn ink and olive green brads (I know they look black in photo) added to just add splash of colour besided the blue and vanilla.

Well, that's my lot for this weekend. I see the Magnolia winter kits have arrived for some of you, so have fun with those! (I've still not had post today but doubt mine are here yet as money only went out on the 12th as I left it quite late before I ordered. Talking of which - what did they charge you for postage? They took 45Kr for mine, I thought it was 35Kr - has it gone up?)

Have a fab weekend everyone.

CCT#36-Red & green:'loving christmas wishes'

It's Thursday which means it's CCT time again. This week it's a nice and simple colour theme, 'red & green' so I finally got to use some of my new Magnolia stamps and made this:

  • Images: Tilda (can never remember all the strange names they get given!), ticket stamp and the heart/holly decoration all from the new christmas/winter collection '08
  • Colouring: watercoloured with distress ink from the inkpads (some use the refill bottles). Aged the ticket with Heidi swapp distresser and 'old paper' inkpad. Added stickles to the decorations, her buttons and the bow in her hair
  • Papers: all scraps from a previous card so already had the square scallop frame and the circle cut out - I just played about with it to get a layout that worked (it's PM 'wonderful christmas time' pack)
  • Others: Martha Stewart border punches (scallop dots & embossed zigzag), ribbon, flowers, metal spacer and brad from stash

Think I'm fairly up to date with my DT stuff so off to play with some of my other new Whiff of Joys and Magnolias today before the clubkit arrives (soon I hope!) They've started sending them out and Malin posted a picture of them here - Love the look of some of them and that giant glass will be fab to perch a Tilda on for new year/celebration cards - very 'Ditta von teese', LOL (for those that don't know she's a burlesque performer and has this signiture striptease she does in a giant champagne glass ;D)

Have a good day, I'm hoping my new nesties dies will get here today (love the 2 new 'labels' shapes)

High Hopes #7: 'Ho, Ho, Ho!'

I love High Hopes stamps (they always make me smile) but never seem to get a chance to join in the challenges (and it's been a while since I last inked one up!) but I've finally made it this week, whoohoo! The theme is 'sparklemania' so out came my glamour dust again :) and this cute santa stamp with a twist! Kept it fairly simple and the colours quite unisex so it can be suitable for male or female for those last minute 'oops I need a card' moments! Materials: (all highlighted products are available from Silly Monkeys )
  • Images: 'Reindeer games' High Hopes stamp, stamped onto kraft coloured cardstock. 'Ho,ho,ho' sentiment from a Studio G 99p mini set
  • Colouring: prismacolor Pencils & blended with Sansador and paper stumps. Added snow with Decoart glistening snow writer which I sprinkled glamour dust on whilst still wet for extra sparkle. Stickles used on santa's white fur trim
  • Papers: Basic grey 'toyland' from figgy pudding range
  • Others: brown and kraft coloured cardstock, garden twine and Martha Stewart train punch from my stash. Edges have been distressed and faux stitching added with silver gelpen.
O.K, 2 posts in a day is more than enough! I'll hopefully see you tomorrow for my CCT card. Thanks for dropping by and have a good day!

Tilda & Friends ATC

ATC theme this week is 'bling' which immediately made me think of using diamond glaze & glamour dust (I love the sparkle and dimension you get with this combo) so looked through my stamps to see what I could use and this big bow on the magnolia present just shouted out to be 'blinged' up LOL.

So nice and simple, just paper pierced the wrapping with a bit of scrap dp, coloured the bow as normal with a red promarker before adding the diamond glaze and glamour dust over it. Then the background looked a bit bare so I coloured a pale blue circle around the present as a sort of spotlight then stamped some random snowflakes around the edges. Inked the edge in red before matting onto an ATC sized bit of silver mirri card. then just in case that wasn't 'blingy' enough i added a few more gems to finish! The 'no peeking' written with ATB tape writer using a strip of scrap coredinations card which after sanding still didn't stand out enough so I went over the letters with a brown pen. Punched ends with SU word window punch.

Talking of ATCs I received one back from the swap that Shary hosted a few challenges ago - and I received Maria's cute one in the post yesterday, which you can see on her blog here! It was fun, would love to know who got mine!

WoJ #7 : Winter Wishes Lizzie

Had to enter this week's Whiff of Joy challenge seeing as I've got all the gorgeous new releases to play with. Think I've just made it! This is Lizzie with muff and I would have killed for hair like that when I was younger (did the whole dodgy 80's perm thing as a teenager, my hair is poker straight!).

Anyway, back to the card. Wanted a christmas folder card that would be suitable for a teenage girl so chose a grey/pink colour scheme with a touch of black & silver and lots of shimmer and bling:

  • Images: 'Lizzie with muff' from Whiff of Joy so too are the snowflake around the border (part of one of the sentiment sets) which has been stamped with silver and pink metallic ink and the sentiment is part of a 'sending winter wishes' from an earlier release (think it came with some of the stamps from the very first charlie release) which I just punched out as I couldn't fit it all on!
  • Colouring: Promarkers, pretty much just pastel pink and all the shades of cool grey and a touch of umber in the hair and blush for face. Added H2o's for added shimmer on the furry bits which you can see better if you click on photo.
  • Papers: bargain Anita's 'Classic christmas black' 6x6 pad (think it was only £1.99) which I got ages ago but have only just cracked open, love the silver greys with the blacks in this and the prints are lovely.
  • Others: cuttlebug embossing folder used on the pink piece of cardstock, silver snowflakes and stars from a cuttlebug die and then just a teeny tiny pink star gem.

Here's a side view so you can see the folder bit inside - just stuck the remaining 2 snowflakes diecuts left over from the die I'd used

Thanks for dropping by and see you tomorrow for an ATC and possibly another card - I'm on a roll at the moment (plus Dec is fast approaching)!

Spoonful #24: 'you warm my heart'

Bit last minute as usual, but here's my spoonful entry which was a sketch and it was perfect for a rectangular card (I do like making 5x7 sometimes, makes a change from square but is still big enough for all the bits but not too big!) I used another of my cute 'Herb' stamps from the new WoJ release, this time he's holding onto a christmas pud - love it! Materials:

  • Images: 'Herb with christmas pudding', snowflake and the sentiment all from Whiff of Joy
  • Colouring: wanted a softer smokey look so used my prismacolor pencils and Sansodor for a change with a touch of sakura glaze pens on the holly and the pudding but it doesn't come across on the photo. stamped random snowflakes around him with blue chalk ink
  • Papers: scraps from box, BG figgy pudding range - quite fitting really!
  • Tools: Martha stewart border punches (train & scallop dots) any excuse to use them really - I love them!
  • ribbon, felt brads and bella's baubles from stash

Thanks for stopping by!

Calender 2009 - Jan

I got this fab Karen fosters blank calender and calender bundle from Silly Monkey and it's fantastic for making a quick calender. You just use the dp and stickers that you get for each month (each a diff colour scheme) and just colour your images to match and voila, 1 month done! As the panel is only 4x4 it's just right for all my 'little people' stamps. The other good thing is that it's a perpetual calender so if you don't finish it in time it can be for the following year! or if you don't add a year to it you can use it indefinately.

This is Jan and as it has loads of sparkle and bling (it has honest, there's stickles everywhere, including all over the dp, just not showing very well in photo). Tilda and Edwin are from various 2008 Magnolia collections coloured with Promarkers and twinkling H2O's The dp and all the various stickers that you see including the 'January', 'celebrate', balloons etc are from the bundle kit. All I've added is some silver mirri card, ribbon and some chipboard numbers for '09.

I'm going to do the whole calender using Magnolias (well, I've got enough to choose from!) so you will be seeing the other 11 months over the following few weeks!
