PTW Challenge: Roses are Red

Oh my goodness, the sun is shining and it's not raining! Wonder how long that will last? Needed to make an oriental style card last night so decided to tie it in with the Papertake Weekly Challenge. This week's them is Roses are Red ..' is to use red on your card! Any shade or shades of red that you like from bright pillar box to deep burgandy!! Come on everyone lets paint the town RED!!(P.S. The next few challenges will have Valentines themed names but you do not have to make Valentines cards!! lol!!)

I went more towards the burgandy/raspberry end of the spectrum and this is it;

  • Images: Main image is 'Oriental Lady' can't remember where from but it's a 'Creative Impressions' stamp. Coloured with my lovely Prismas & Sansodor then matted and layered with light green and gold card. Highlighted the chopstick in her hair and edges of her fan with clear sakura aqualip pen to make them glossy. Whole image stuck on with foam pads to give it more dimension. The chinese writing and seal in the corner are both stamped and clear heat embossed. The seal is from Hero Arts ('chinese seals') and the writing is a new year phrase which came unmounted but can't remember where from!
  • Paper: from last year's Dovecraft's paper pack 'Amethyst floral prints' some have a very oriental feel to them which is what I wanted. Matted onto gold card.
  • Others: Sticky blk/gold ribbon from stash.

I think I mentioned in a previous post somewhere that my DH sold our business (chinese take away) just before christmas, after 3 years, as we wanted a shop closer to home (it took 20mins each way on the motorway plus it was a good offer to sell). Hence why I've got so much free time at the moment as new place won't be ready for a while and even then I'll only be needed part time :)

Anyway, we had some wonderful customers at our old place and one lady in particular we have kept in touch with - she was our first ever customer on opening day! So I needed this card as we're going to visit her today and wanted a card to go with some of the gifts we bought her (various chinese teas etc).

Have just come back and glad to say, she loved the card and gifts. Not so great news about the business though. Very disheartening to hear standards haven't been maintained and that all our hard work is slowly being undone. I know I shouldn't get so sentimental about it, as it's business but I got to know so many of the customers and I'd hate to think of them being let down like that. Oh well 'C'est le vie'.

Another small downside to not having a food place is the need to go and do full week's food shop! Used to be at the shop so much that we'd just eat there and hardly needed to cook at home. But at least I can get to craft more and the sun is still shining! Hope it's been nice where you are, off to Tesco's now.
