Happy New Year

Well, it's the last day of 2007, so thought I'd finish the year how I intend to start 2008 . . to keep blogging on a regular basis!

Been busy just sorting out all the links for the SBS-8 group then I got side tracked and changed my blog template and tidied up whilst I was there. Also been having fun visiting all my new 'sisters' and reading through their blogs, we sure are a crafty bunch! I'm definately going to try and start scrapbooking in the new year but for now, I need to finish my 2008 calender LOL.

Here is Feburary, decided not to just use my bella stamps but instead use a selection of all my favourite ones. This way I should find images which suit the months better. Feb = 'lurve' so I needed a cute couple and Tilda and Edwin (Magnolia stamps) were perfect for this. Just chose some background paper from my various DCWV paper stacks and coloured in my images to match. Added some brads and ribbon and a 'completely loved' sentiment and voila!

Close up is to show that I've raised the images and stuck them down with foam pads.

Off to finish the other 10 months now. Here's wishing everyone a Happy New Year and hope it's a happy, healthy and rewarding 2008 for you and your loved ones!

Sisterhood of the Blogging Stampers 8

O.K, I said I'd join and I've plucked up the courage and have! So hello to my fellow group 8 sisters. I'm Frances, 34, married to my lovely hubby Simon and we live on the Wirral (which is in the north-west of England, just across the river Mersey from Liverpool for those of you not familiar to the area or UK).

I started making cards about 7 years ago when I was living down in London and was looking for a hobby to take my mind off the stresses of my then job and happened to live close by to this craft shop. I bought my first stamp and have been hooked ever since! I now have more stash then I will probably ever need but it is impossible to overcome the urge to buy more! Anyone else have these symptoms!?!

Only started blogging this Oct after seeing lots of other blogs and thought it'd be a fun way to motivate myself to actually use up some of my stash and just to share my cards with fellow bloggers/crafters. So am loving the idea of actually getting to 'meet' like minded 'crafty' sisters out there. Look forward to meeting you and hopefully have some fun along the way.

Frances x
P.S to those of you not part of the Sisterhood, check it out here , there's still plenty of spaces left in group 8.

Papertake Weekly challenge, Shop Til you Drop

Hello. Hope you all had a fantastic christmas. Braved the shops today but didn't really get much clothes/bargain wise as the crowds and queues were a bit crazy, you'd think everything was free! Instead went into papermill store and some new spring bits (brads and papers from the papermania range) ended up in my basket lol!

Talking of shopping saw this weeks' papertake challenge and have decided to take part. Have always been meaning to but christmas got in the way! But am going to try and do this on a regular basis now. This weeks challenge is Shop til you drop. ". .Anything to do with shopping this week, what with the sales round the corner lol!! Handbags, shopping bags, dollar/pound signs etc etc!! "

Had to take part as I've been itching to use 1 of my new bella stamps and I needed to start making the blank 2008 calender I bought ages ago (preferably before the year ended !) and I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone by doing this . . . (it's a long thin calender, so just photographed the picture, the date part of the month is below the image)
I just coloured her in with water colour pencils and sakura stardust pens for the bags, image cut & layered with my petite scallop circle nestibilities (xmas pressie from hubby : ), got the full set along with the full square set too!) added some shimmer chalk round the edges and round the calender page itself. Then just accented with patterned card and some stickers.

I've just got the other 11 months to do now, can't decide whether to stick to all bella images or whether to just choose the right image for the month. Hmm will have to sleep on it. That's all for now.

Christmas. . .

. . has come early! Look what the postie bought me today . .

It's the bellas I ordered off Emily when she was offering free shipping to celebrate stamping bella's 1yr birthday, so thanks Emily, it made it just in time for Christmas! I ordered some of her new bellas (savvyshoppabella & mwahbella with words) which are sooo 'cheeky' as they are drawn with bella looking over her shoulder (if you click on photo you should be able to see)! I can't wait to make some cards with them. Also got bookwormabella which I've been meaning to get and also partygirlabella which I think is also quite new and great for birthdays etc plus some of her baubles which I think are great little embellishments!

Also received my pressies off my Sister in Florida which I can't wait to open now as I know they are stamps but just don't know which ones!!!! (she asked what I wanted from US so I gave her this site, eat cake graphics, and just asked her to pick me some stamps as I don't have any of them but loved the look of them, so cute and they come unmounted too so nice & light for the post!). I just need my Prismacolors now, which still aren't here yet even though I know they left US last week, :( probably stuck in customs. hopefully will turn up after christmas as I'm itching to colour in :)

Haven't made anything since my last post (still got hubby's card to finish !!!!!!!!) but here is the card I mentioned last time that I couldn't post, Edwin sitting on a chimney

Tag was cut using sizzix red die, 'super scallop tag' using card from DCWV christmas glitter stack. Edwin and the chimney were cut out and watercoloured, bit of white puff paint for the trim and bobble of the hat. Then just added a silver snowflake brad, some ribbons and stickles glitter glue round the chimney and bits of the card which doesn't show on the photo.

O.K off to finish off hubby's card before it's christmas day lol! (he hasn't got me card either - he says he's going to make me one, so goodness knows what state my craft room will be in once he's finished!)

Merry Christmas!

Can't believe it's only 4 sleeps till Christmas, where has the time gone?! Don't know about you but it's freezing here on the Wirral. However, had to venture out today as I needed to go get my hair cut desperately. I tend to go get it cut to about shoulder length (it's just straight and layered) then just leave it until I can't ignore it anymore which is usually about 3 to 4 months! I could never have a style that needed regular trims etc, I just can't be doing with all the phaff.

All my presents are wrapped, cards done, just need to do 1 last food shop but I don't have christmas dinner to worry about as we tend to get together for a big family christmas lunch/ dim sum at a chinese restaurant as my mum wouldn't eat roast & come to think of it neither would my brother or his kids (very fussy eaters!) However, this year it's changed to evening dinner so I was going to do a roast but my sister has invited me & hubby round for lunch at theirs as my 14yr old niece has decided to cook it this year! I'll let you know how that turns out!

Having said I'd finished my cards I do still have my hubbys' to make. Always the same, every year, no card till last minute. He always laughs at me and says what kind of a cardmaker am I, it's like a butchers shop with no meat for sale! Anyway, here are the last 3 I've made. All using my Penny Black stamps which have been neglected of late due to my new found love of all things magnolia and sugar nellies. I just love these stamps, always makes me smile when I see them. Just used some Dovecraft christmas papers and Papermania Christmas ribbons. All images watercoloured (still no sign of my prismas, post has been unbearably slow this christmas) and cut out with my nestibilities dies.

I did make one other card for someone over on UKS but I can't show it yet in case she sees this, as I only posted it yesterday. We found out we'd each got sent a duplicate magnolia but ones that we didn't have so we did a swap! So I had to quickly make a card to send with it as it had to fit in a small envelope so couldn't use one already made. Don't know about you but I find it more difficult/nervous making a card for a fellow cardmaker in case it's not good enough! So, I hope she likes it and I will post a photo of it later on once I think she's received it.

I've also noticed there's this site which I'm thinking about taking part in but I might wait until after Christmas now. It's basically hooking up fellow cardmakers/bloggers together into teams of 20 and I think is a great way to get to know fellow crafters.

O.K enough rambling for now.

Just like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and hope you all have a lovely time with your families/friends and get all the crafting goodies you wanted from santa (assuming you've been good this year) !! :)

Love, Frances xx

Pocket Cards

Been quite constructive today, tidied up my blog which I've been meaning to do for a while now (added list of blogs I look at, websites of my fave stamp companies and a little mood icon and clock which I saw whilst surfing other blogs) and have been busy making christmas cards for my family whom I'll be seeing in person so no need to catch the post!

This one is for my sister, who saw another of my cards and commented on the blue/taupe colour scheme so decided to use those colours for her card. Had to use maggie in her PJ's as my Sis and her 2 kids love their sleep/comfort plus she has a thing for teddy bears so ideal! Used my nestibilities die and papers are from DCWV. The doodle frame round the handwritten sentiment is from a new set from Autmn leaves which I fell in love with.

The next 2 cards are for my niece and nephew who are now too old for presents (when I say too old I mean 14 & 15!) and have asked for money instead - teenagers, what can you do?! Oh well, saves me a shopping trip. So instead I've made them money cards.

The money is inside the tag card which is tied together with ribbon and this is placed in the pocket which makes up the front of the card.

  • Stamps: Magnolia stamps from this year's Christmas range
  • Backing paper: DCWV and Dovecraft
  • Dies: Nestibilities classic & scallop oval. Sizzix super scallop tag
  • Embellishments: fabric flowers, jewelled brad, ribbon, alphabet stickers. Woodware white 'fluffy stuff' puff paint for the trim on the hat.

All images have been coloured using watercolours which I'm not liking as much as using prismacolour pencils but I have just sold my set of 48 prismacolor pencils because I loved them so much! No, really, I originally bought them cos I wasn't sure if I'd get on with them and was being sensible going for the cheaper 48 set. However, after having them for only a week I fell in love with the effect you get using them over watercolours and really wanted the 120 set lol! But I couldn't really justify buying 120 AND have the 48 set, so managed to sell that at a bargain price to someone over on UK scrappers which made me feel less guilty in buying my 120 set - happy all round!

So in the meantime I'm having to use my watercolours which I'm not so keen on anymore so I hope they get here soon but I doubt it, as it's coming from the US.

On that note, I shall sign off as it's getting rather late and I need all the beauty sleep I can get :)

Some quickies and a couple of cuties. . .

. .keep it clean now, I'm talking christmas cards!!

First 3 are a few I knocked up last night for the neighbours. These are all using papers from last years DCWV christmas paper stack. Middle card is just 3d stickers and end 2 are some cupcake images from Pink Petticoat which I had already coloured in and just had to punch out and layered onto some gingham glitter card.

The next one is Tilda sitting down which was just perfect for the large 'C' I'd cut out with one of the bargain bigz dies I got from the Ellison sale. The rest of the letters are cut with the 'mango tango' alpha set. The snowflakes are also cut from a sizzix set which I then just added some pale blue stickles glitter glue to, but it doesn't show that well in the photo. I just need to find an envelope to fit as it's rather large!

This last one is Hamish with his sleigh which is from one of Funky Kits' new sugar nellie range. I've just coloured him in with my Prismacolor pencils and layered him onto some DCWV card and papers and added some brads to the cut out corners.

That's all for tonight, need to go and make some more so that I can get them posted tomorrow.
Before I go, just have to recommend a film I saw on Friday. I know I'm 34 but I took hubby to see the new Disney film, Enchanted and even he enjoyed it! If you know and love all your classic disney fairytales and like your romcoms then you should go see this. It's a traditional disney fairytale with a twist! Great for families as well as it's for kids of all ages! I really loved it, so not sure what that says about me?!

All of my current favourite things

Been busy today and made a few cards with my current favourite stamps. Also managed to play with my new Sugar Nellie stamps.

The first one is Maggie with accessories, she comes with seperate stamps for the end of her stick so it can be a ballon, star, heart or flag but I thought it was quicker to just put a star brad in! Background is just piece of DCWV card embossed with cuttlebug snowflakes folder and sanded down so the white shows through.

The second photo has 2 cards; On the left is a very simple snowflake card adapted from a card I saw in a mag using my sizzix snowflake die set and cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder and the other card is a bella stamp, 'Tinkerbella' cut out with my nestibilities rectangle dies and the cuttlebug swirls embossing folder used for background. Photo below that shows close up of the tinkabella card. Sentiment is again cut out using some cuttlebug dies.

The last card is using my Magnolia Edwin's snowman using the same materials as the Tinkerbella card but just laid out slightly differently. As you can see I tried to use up the same card & ribbons (DCWV and ribbon is pack of papermania xmas ribbons) for all these cards and it meant I finished them a lot quicker as otherwise I tend to phaff and take ages in deciding what papers/colours to use etc.

Then last but not least we have a Tilda but in a totally different colour palette as I coloured her in last night then had to go finding bits to match her!

Ended up using a sheet from this years DCWV xmas paper stack and just added some brads, diecut snowflakes and an epoxy sticker "let it snow".

That's the lot for tonight should be back with some more soon as I'm on a roll at the moment plus got more goodies still to play with. My Ellison goodies arrived tonight, got myself some sizzix alphabet die sets and a few letters in the new bigz alphabet range. It took them 10 days to deliver but at 75% it was worth the wait. I would never have got a complete alphabet set at £99 each but at £24.99 it would be rude not to!!!!!!!!! . . so I got 2, LOL

bye for now, Francesx

Xmas cards . .

. . full steam ahead. Need to get cracking with them, good job I'm not making to sell (although I may need to soon as I've slowly built up small mountain of finished cards that have yet to be used! Unfortunately not of the christmas variety which is what I need at the present) .

Made 3 today, seeing as how crap weather was outside it was perfect for staying in.

First 1 is for my sister over in America who had a special request for her card this year. She said, quote . . "card with palm trees, cute dog and a tree frog or 2 with some of your sparkling dust"!! She lives in Florida and has loads of palm trees in her garden (which I call a forest, as compared to my back garden it is!) and she has a dog called Poppy who loves to go after all the tree frogs hence her rather strange request. Anyway, here it is . .

The doggy moves! and the tree frog is on the inside of the card with Happy Christmas written across it. It was the best I could do, apart from the doggy everything was printed straight onto pearl card from my printer using clipart I found online.

  • Dog image: Penny black stamp, 'Merry puppy' watercoloured and cut out and made into a slider which moves along the card
  • Everything else printed off PC with the presents and baubles decoupaged and glitter glue added

Next one is made using my other SU set I got off ebay. It's a row of snowmen in a semi-circle which I've stamped twice to create a circle. Kept it fairly simple and originally only had the 1 snowflake in the centre but then I went and smudged the bottom right with black ink off my other card . . . AHHH, but I was determined to salvage it but hiding it behind another snowflake, what do you think? . . .

Original clean card . . .

after, still clean. Smudge, what smudge?!! . . . LOL
  • stamp: SU 'world over' set
  • background: embossed with Cuttlebug snowflake folded
  • Embellishments: snowflakes cut from sizzix snowflakes #3 (I think) set. Papermania brads and ribbon

Final 1 tonight is one of my poor neglected bellas . . .

nice and simple to make, just cut out with my oval nestibilities and some gems and a bit of ribbon.

  • Image: stamp 'sockafellabella' from Stampin Bella
  • Sentiment: stamp from doodlebug christmas set
  • Oval nestibilities die in classic & scallop
  • backing paper: Pink Petticoat

Talking of Bellas, you should check out her blog Bloggabella as she's offering free shipping for orders over $25 at the moment and she's got some looovely new bellas out. Dare you to resist ;>

Thats all for now, Frances x

Something Different

Hello! Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you for popping by and reading my ramblings! It's very encouraging to know I'm not typing to myself but also a bit disconcerting to know that I am that predictable already (Wendy, am I THAT obvious?!!! lol) Here is a non-tilda/nellie card just in case you all thought I made nothing else! (although I should be seeing as I have so many that are still waiting to be used!)
This is from a SU kit which I saw whilst looking through their online cat and just had to have as it's so cute and good for male cards. It's very versatile as it's not just christmas, you can see the kit here stampin up uk although I got mine off US buyer on ebay as they are only just setting up over here in the UK and much cheaper to buy $ at the moment.
  • Image & sentiment: SU kit 'Loads of Love'
  • Backing paper: Pink Petticoat
  • Nestibilities die classic & scallop oval sets used to cut out and frame image and sentiment both of which raised on foam pads
  • Embellishments: ribbon and a couple of brads.

Thats all for now, Frances x

yep, another Tilda

As promised, here is the card I made using my new nestibilities die. I'm afraid it's another Magnolia stamp but I hope you like it. You can't really see it in the photo but the edges of the frame have embossed lines all the way around and gives the card a more professional finish IMO anyway! Central image is raised on foam pads and the sentiment is attached with silver eyelets
  • Stamp: Pixie Tilda & snowflake from Magnolia
  • large plain & scallop rectangle nestibilities die set
  • backing paper pink petticoat O christmas tree set
  • Embellishments: prima flowers, brads, eyelets and jewels

that's all for tonight. Next card should be a non magnolia card before you get too bored! Night, Frances x

Stash, stash & more stash

Sorry, no cards to show today, too busy craft shopping and looking at all the goodies that I've not had time to make anything with them LOL

Also been busy with sorting our spare bedroom out. Now that hubby's sold our business we have time to spend on the house before he starts setting up the new shop in the new year. Spare room's been a bit of a dumping ground for all our old bits of furniture etc and as he uses it for his computer/gaming we've decided to clear it out and buy some new bits of furniture for it. So we went to Ikea yeseterday and as we were in Warrington it was just wrong for us not to pop into the QVC outlet there! Managed to get some crafting goodies there. This Brenda Picnick Christmas scrapbooking kit was there and was only £12.75, so just had to get it. What a bargin as original price is over £26 plus about £5P&P. I haven't actually got into scrapbooking yet but this kit is great for cards as there's loads of die cuts, chipboard pieces, ribbons etc that I know I'll never use it all and I will get round to scrapbooking as I have loads of photos that are just in bob standard albums and lots more just in a drawer begging to be scrapped!

Then today, I got more goodies through the door. The nestibilities dies I ordered last week from Papertray in US arrived and are great. I ordered 1 set of the scalloped & plain in both the ovals and rectangles and had a quick go with them earlier and they are fab. I've got hubby to get me the full sets of the squares and petite circles for my xmas pressie and they came today as well but I can't have those till xmas :( I will try and finish the card using the rectangle set later. I also got some more magnolia stamps from Silly Monkeys and some stampin up sets off ebay came today as well, talk about stash overload! (then there's more stamps still to come from US, why does the £ have to be so strong against the dollar at the moment!!!! and lots of dies from the crazy 75% sale over on the Ellison site it's stupid not to really!)

Then to top that all off, Funky Kits released some more sugar nellies tonight and I just had to get them. They had some new Nellies but also new characters Maggie and Hamish. You have to have a look but most have sold out already.Their blog is sugar nellie

O.K blog over for tonight need to go do some crafting, hopefully be back soon to share my creations, in between christmas shopping and sorting out cards and presents that need to be posted before last post for US and HK. I can't believe it's under 3wks until christmas. That's another thing , need to dig out the christmas tree and decorations.

Frances x
